What Are the Benefits of Patterned Glass?

What about if you don’t want the standard glass panels? Instead, consider patterned glass which has a variety of benefits for both commercial and residential buildings. Let’s have a look at the different advantages and how Prentice Glass can help you.

What is Patterned Glass?

Also known as textured or decorative glass, patterned glass is named after the various patterns and textures on the panes. As the patterns are typically large and opaque, these glass products are ideal in situations where privacy is required. These different textures offer not just a functional purpose but also create a modern aesthetic in homes.

These different patterns and textures are embossed either on one or both sides of the glass panels; making it non-transparent and hazy if someone was to try and look through.

How is it Made?

To create patterned glass, molten glass is needed to be passed through rollers that have the chosen design imprinted on them. Then, once the molten glass is fed between the rollers, the pattern is transferred onto either one of both sides of the glass.

Before being cut into whatever shape the glass products need to be in, the patterned glass must be first cooled after rolling. Typically, this results in 4mm or 6mm glass thickness, depending on the specifics of the project.

Privacy

In homes, typically patterned glass is utilised in areas that require privacy, such as in bathrooms or glass shower screens. The different textures of this type of glass products result in an opaque material that passersby cannot look into. This all depends on the type of privacy you are requiring.

In commercial buildings, profilit glazing is widely used in communal areas of shared accommodation. This ensures that there is privacy without losing any natural light. Find out more about this type of patterned glass on our previous blog here.

Versatile

As patterned glass is highly versatile, there are various possibilities that allow you to personalise your home to your tastes. All right down to the glass components. If your home already has a theme (such as flowery decor or an artistic flair), you can utilise this within your patterned glass as well.

Coming in a variety of different patterns, textures and colours, homeowners can choose from several options to find a glass suitable for their home. At Prentice Glass, we work with our customers to create bespoke glass design that has both functionality and versatility.

In addition, it’s not just the type of patterns that are adaptable. Patterned glass panels can be used for a variety of purposes, including glass conservatories, shower screens, front and back doors and in both domestic and commercial buildings.

Maximise Natural Light

With various purposes, patterned glass also maximises the natural light flowing into your home. All without losing the privacy that you are wanting. These benefits homeowners by implementing a modern aesthetic throughout the spaces whilst eliminating the need to switch on lights during the day. This can ultimately help save money on bills and improve your home’s energy efficiency.

Aesthetically Pleasing

Glass has the potential to be an essential component of interior design, yet frequently we assume that it only serves a practical purpose in the home. With patterned glass, you may give a feature that might otherwise be unremarkable a lovely, unique touch.

From various colours and patterns to choose from, there is something for everyone with patterned glass. For more information on our glass products, click here.
